St. Simon's Island

Emily and I had an adventure yesterday, it was one of the best days I have had in a long time. We started out at a small breakfast place called Cafe Frederica, with a model train whirring along the edge of the ceiling and pretty little windows that spilled light onto yellow and black table cloths. She said Cafe Frederica was very popular for its cinnamon rolls but by late morning on a Saturday it would be near impossible to get one. To our surprise they were still in stock and paired with bacon, sausage and home fries it was a breakfast to be remembered.

Full and happy, we adventured to an outdoor flower shop that we had passed earlier in the day. Emily goes there often to purchase flowers for her mother's grave so we decided to explore and pick some up on our way to the cemetery. It was honestly like magic, the whole entire place was a dream.

After the garden, we visited the cemetery, where I shot a few polaroids with my Mamiya. scan009 scan008
(the loveliest light leak I could ever imagine)
We went down to the pier and explored little shops and neighborhoods. We snacked on dairy queen and rock candy. The tide was so high that it swallowed the entire beach and left the edge of the island surrounded by water. We walked down to the lighthouse and weaved through the back roads. Because it seemed it was going to rain, I left my camera in my car. I did take a few instagram photos so they will have to suffice ;)

We then drove to Jekyll Island where we explored the grounds of the old hotel and the houses that surrounded it. It was like being in a foreign country, there were intricately designed homes surrounded by beautiful gardens and I climbed the oldest oak tree on the island, it was over 300 years old.

Our final photo destination was drift wood beach, a place we explored the last time we were together but not so in depth. We walked further than Emily had ever been before and came across a huge patch of dried out trees, each with scars from fire and maybe even lightning. There we made camp and took lots of photos, both film and digital.

We stayed at the beach until the sun started to sink, then headed back to St. Simon's for dinner and goodbyes. I can't wait until Emily moves to Georgia for a few months this summer, her company is something I honestly treasure so much. We always have wonderful conversations and discover beautiful places. Yesterday was a dream.
Take a day and take advantage of it
